Allegation

Whilst registered as a Physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council and during the course of your employment with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and/or Bedford Hospital NHS Trust, you: 

 

  1. On or around 15 August 2018, in relation to Patient A, used inappropriate language, in that you: 

 

     a. when Patient A went to leave the appointment early, you told her that: 

 

      i. you were the team leader and that she would have to wait a long time to see anyone else; 

 

      ii. if she didn’t like it she should leave , or words to that effect. 

 

      2. On or around 25 July 2018, in relation to Patient A: 

 

      a. used inappropriate language, in that you: 

 

       i. asked the patient whether she "had something wrong with her brain"; 

 

       ii. told patient A to say "**** off” to you. 

 

       3. In or around July 2018, during a post-natal exercise class, in relation to Patient C, you: 

 

        a. acted outside your scope of practice and/or competence by: 

 

         i. asking the patient to stop taking her prescribed anti-depressants; 

 

         b. did not document in records your advice to the patient. 

 

       4. In matters relating to Colleague A, you: 

 

       a. inappropriately treated colleague A without: 

 

        i. an appropriate referral from her General Practitioner (GP) or Occupational Health and/or 

 

        ii. making notes of the treatment provided; 
 

        b. acted outside your scope of practice by; 

 

         i. informing colleague A that her fibroids were a result of “congestion’; 

 

        ii. telling her to stop consuming dairy products without also recommending that she speak to her GP and/or to a dietician; 

 

        iii. performing a technique similar to reiki on her; 

        5. In relation to Colleague C, who had complained of a sore neck: 

 

        a. Undertook inappropriate and/or unnecessary treatment, in that you: 

 

         i. palpated her thoracic region and diaphragm; 

 

         ii. performed a technique similar to manual vibration on her ribs; 

 

         iii. told her that these issues were all connected as she had a ‘twisted stomach’, or words to that effect; 

 

         iv. performed an abdominal thrusting type manoeuvre despite colleague C being in the early stages of pregnancy. 

 

          b. Inappropriately undertook treatment on Colleague C without: 

 

          i. an appropriate referral from her General Practitioner (GP) or Occupational Health and/or 

 

          ii. making notes of the treatment provided; 

 

           6. On or around 26 February 2018, in relation to Patient E: 

 

            a. Were unprofessional in your manner in that you: 

 

             i. asked Patient E if she had listened in her first appointment; 

 

             ii. told Patient E that your employment had been terminated; 

 

             iii. lectured Patient E about continuing to take anti-depressants after 6 years and/or told her she should not be depressed; 

 

              iv. shared personal information about your medical history; 

 

               b. did not carry out a vaginal assessment on the patient. 

 

              7. On 20 February 2018, in relation to Patient F: 

 

              a. used inappropriate language and/or did not use an appropriately sensitive approach, in that you informed the patient that: 

 

  1. “she would be better off using a vibrator” or words to that effect; and/or 

 

  1. she should watch her clitoris in the mirror when carrying out pelvic floor exercises 
     
  1. you did not provide an adequate explanation to the patient when by diagnosing the patient with "rectus abdominal diastasis"; 

 

  1. gave incorrect advice to the patient in that you advised her to give up Pilates. 

 

  1. The matters described in paragraph 1 - 9 constitute misconduct and/or lack of competence 

 

  1. By reason of your misconduct and/or lack of competence, your fitness to practise is impaired
